Letters of Hope is a 36-page first-person picture book written by Yu-I Kuo. The story is a compilation of the diaries of a young girl looking for her missing friend in 20th-century Taiwan.
The project was initially a response to the picture book workshop hosted by the National Human Rights Museum. During the workshop, we collaborated with other creators, researchers and White Terror victims to transform the history and personal memories into visual narratives. Informed by the atmosphere of the period in Taiwan, I aim to create a nostalgic and delicate mood through atmospheric illustrations.
